COVID-19 Impacts: AORS and our training partners are committed to delivering the quality training that our members and their staff need to provide the essential services their municipalities expect, safely and efficiently.
Wherever feasible, training programs were adapted for online delivery. These were either as live webinars or as prerecorded / self-paced modules that students can complete at their convenience. AORS believes the networking, relationship building, and interaction between students and instructors that occur during in-person training are often as valuable as the course content. So where possible, we’ve tried to incorporate these into the online sessions as well.
Not all training lends itself to online delivery, such as equipment operator or chainsaw safety training, which we’ve continued to offer in person, following appropriate safety protocols.
Now that restrictions have been lifted, courses are returning to in-person delivery. However, where demand exists, online options will continue to be offered for those that prefer that format, either as a standalone live webinar, as a hybrid of online and in-person, or as asynchronous self-paced modules.
Public Works Leadership Development Program
PWLDP modules are returning to in-person delivery for spring 2023, in Mississauga, and an online option for those who prefer to participate via live Webinar. Modules are offered at various times, spring and fall each year. Specified modules are required to qualify for the graduated levels of the Certified Road Supervisor designations (CRS, CRS-Intermediate, and CRS-Senior). A certificate is also awarded upon successful completion of all 8 modules. Whenever possible, new dates are added to meet demand. Students are encouraged to register early to secure their spot, as certain modules fill up quickly. Maximum class size is 20.
Please Note: Scheduled In-Person sessions may shift to Live Interactive Webinars based on provincial restrictions or registration levels.

Load Securement
Some think that a chain is a chain, a rope is a rope and both are just as good as the other when securing a load. However, this line of thinking can lead to disastrous consequences. The size of the load, in width, height and weight are just some of the factors which must be considered when determining the tools best suited for the job. It is also important to remember that both the age and the condition of the tie-down must be also a consideration.

Safe Backing (With or Without a Trailer)
Regardless of your skill level, backing up safely is one of the most difficult tasks to perform while driving. While most new vehicles have back-up cameras, the most reliable operators are the ones who can back safely without the use of aids such as these. A good driver requires the ability to “read” the environment in a 360 degree fashion at all times, particularly when backing. Professional training teaches the overall awareness and skills required to complete backing in a safe manner, every time.
