Wherever feasible, training programs are adapted for online delivery.  These are available either as live webinars or as prerecorded / self-paced modules that students can complete at their convenience.  AORS believes the networking, relationship building, and interaction between students and instructors that occur during in-person training are often as valuable as the course content.   So where possible, we’ve tried to incorporate these into the online sessions as well.

Not all training lends itself to online delivery, such as equipment operator or chainsaw safety training, which we continued to offer only in-person.

Public Works Leadership Development Program

PWLDP course modules are offered at various times each year. Specified modules are required to qualify for the  graduated levels of the Certified Road Supervisor designations (CRS, CRS-Intermediate, and CRS-Senior).  A certificate is also awarded upon successful completion of all 8 modules.  Whenever possible, new dates are added to meet demand. Students are encouraged to register early to secure their spot, as certain modules fill up quickly.  Maximum class size is 25.

TIME: Sessions are full day trainings from 8 am – 5 pm

Traffic Control and Protection – Book 7

Proper temporary work zone traffic control will not only ensure you are in compliance, but will help protect your workers from the inevitable hazards.  AORS Book 7 training has been updated to reflect the changes in the 2022 edition of OTM Book 7 – Temporary Conditions.

Registration fees do not include copies of OTM Book 7.  Registrants are advised to order or download a copy of the Field Edition prior to the course from Publications Ontario.

These webinar sessions are great for municipalities who have a small number of staff to train, or for preparing your student hires for their summer duties. For groups who can meet the minimum number of 20 participants for group training, we encourage you to book an in-person session at your location. Traffic Control and Protection – Unplanned Events

This 2 hour course is a condensed version of our one-day Traffic Control and Protection course, based on the Ontario Traffic Manual OTM Book 7. This course focusses only on unplanned events, such as an emergency where traffic may need to be directed away from an incident, first responders, or their equipment. Chipper Operator Safety

This three-hour course provides participants with the knowledge and the basic skills to safely and efficiently operate and maintain a woodchipper. Students will learn how to recognize safety hazards and equipment deficiencies under a variety of conditions.

Chainsaw Operators Safety

This two day course provides participants with the knowledge and the basic skills to sharpen, maintain ad operate a chainsaw competently; participants will know how to fell and limb timber under a variety of conditions and will be able to identify and deal appropriately with hazardous situations.

This course reviews up-to-date basic landfill operation processes and how they relate to one another, increasing the effectiveness and safety on the job. Load Securement

Some think that a chain is a chain, a rope is a rope and both are just as good as the other when securing a load. However, this line of thinking can lead to disastrous consequences. The size of the load, in width, height and weight are just some of the factors which must be considered when determining the tools best suited for the job. It is also important to remember that both the age and the condition of the tie-down must be also a consideration.

Pick-Up Truck with Plow

Ability drive a pickup truck safely does not guarantee safe operation of a Pickup Truck Plow. The addition of a plow attachment greatly increases responsibility for the operator.  Not only is the change in vehicle dimensions a consideration, but pickup plow operators should also be familiar with standard plowing techniques and public safety concerns.

Roll-Off Truck

Uniquely designed to reduce time spent loading/unloading materials, this vehicle is often used to deliver items such as roof trusses and waste disposal bins.  Much like any other piece of heavy equipment, an operator must be aware of his/her surroundings at all times – particularly because the Roll-Off Truck operates similar to a Dump Truck.

Regardless of your skill level, backing up safely is one of the most difficult tasks to perform while driving.
