2026 International Women’s Day
🌟 International Women’s Day 2026 🌟
This year, AORS is proud to celebrate the incredible women who build, maintain, and lead in municipal public works across Ontario.
From graders and plows to project management and operations leadership, women are making a lasting impact in a field that keeps our communities safe, connected, and moving forward. Their skill, resilience, and leadership are shaping not only our infrastructure — but the future of the profession itself.
We created a special International Women’s Day video highlighting women in municipal public works sharing one powerful message: “What I want the next generation of women to know…”. You can watch the full video here! This video shares the voices, experiences, and advice from women who are paving the way — and encouraging young women to consider careers in skilled trades and municipal operations.
This was an exciting last year as Karla Musso-Garcia, CRS-I served as the first female President of the Association of the Ontario Road Supervisors. In this video, Karla reflects on the last 22 years of her career, and what she sees in the future for women in municipal public works.
In 2025, we also had our very first female competitor in the AORS Provincial Truck Safety Roadeo – Darby Lehmann from the Region of Waterloo. Darby shares her advice for the next generation of women in municipal public works – “Never let someone else tell you you can’t do something because you’re small or it’s too heavy. Prove to yourself that you are the only one who can limit you.”
Jane Ann Newson from Trillium Municipal Supply Inc. was one of the very first female supplier members in the AORS organization. Here she shares her story of building her career in a male-dominated field over the last 35 years.
Municipal public works offers meaningful, stable, and rewarding careers — and there is space at the table, in the cab, and in leadership for the next generation of women.
We would like to take this time to say a special thank you to The Dirty Seahorse Workwear who partnered with AORS to offer a contest on social media to celebrate International Women’s Day!
